Reflection

* If you wish to gain an inside perspective on my remix and what it means to me, please watch the video below! While this project was a hefty process, it was my favorite to do! Enjoy!

My greatest experience in our Rhetoric Class is the time in which we created our Genre Remix projects. From the gecko, I appreciated Dr.Andrews’ commitment to our individual academic disciplines; inspiring us to make something more of ourselves in our field of study. Being a Politics Psychopath, my constraint in selecting an article relative to my academic discipline is that my article selection had to strictly be academic: boring to the common viewer. Being the “fun” individual I am, I knew I had to make every effort to remix a boring article into something engaging because I wanted to appeal to a diverse variety of viewers. Thus, I knew that I wanted to create a video as I believe I express myself very well on the camera. (I also look great on it)

When it came to narrowing my choices, I was originally remixing an article on suicide terrorism because I thought the argument presented by the rhetor was very compelling, but I TRANSFERRED my selection with my peers who expressed their discontent with the topic. (WRITING IS A PROCESS SINCE I HAD ALREADY STARTED THE REMIX, BUT I AM SO THANKFUL THEY DID). When I returned to the drawing board, I came across Robert Putnam’s article on how civic engagement in America is declining because of technology. Having texted my peers about it, they too thought it was an excellent choice for a remix and the rest is history. You may be asking why I considered this article in the first place. If so, I would like to let you know that I wanted to inspire my audience to be bothered by my argument; bothered in a way to go out into our world and fix it! Therefore, I believe there was no better article to have remixed than Putnam’s.

I decided to recreate a tutorial on the information similar to Crash Course Government, as it was my study tool in high school as I prepared for the AP History and Gov Exams; both of which I earned 5’s. While I could have chosen to maintain Putnam’s audience of college level students, I knew that my efforts would not be executed properly because I am only a first semester college student. With respect to Crash Course, the series is intended at High School students enrolled in the Advanced Placement Program. Being that I mastered the material as indicated by my AP scores, I knew the possibilities of executing this remix were endless. Boy was I right...Well, Dr.Andrews needs to tell me first so fingers crossed.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your diligence and cooperation with my genre remix. I wanted to remix an article that not only commemorated my passion for Politics, but I wanted to choose an article in a wise manner; one that would genuinely mend an impact on viewers like you! Discussing an issue relative to the nature of the times today, I genuinely hope that you are inspired to go forth and be a light for others.
