Vinny's Final Destination...for the Blog (He's not dead, don't worry)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…REPORT CARD SEASON! Well, let me provide you with a quick backstory to a traumatic event I experienced in the fifth grade: I got a B- in… TECHNOLOGY (I STILL WANT TO SUE BUT LOOK AT ME NOW). Evidently, getting this grade has deteriorated my confidence in my technological abilities as I entered Fairfield unable to work the latest iPhone. However, Dr. Andrews’ class has transformed the lens through which I once envisioned technology (AND I NOW UNDERSTAND WHAT FACE RECOGNITION IS ON AN IPHONE! HOW COOL IS THAT?!)

*The image is definitely of my head*

Anyway, when I first entered into Dr.Andrews class a week into the semester, I felt out of place. The class atmosphere seemed to be very established and I can still feel the shivers down my spine that rushed upon me as I first sat where I do today. However, life for me in our class changed when Dr.Andrews presented a video of herself from an academic conference about Multimodal Composition. Although bored with the topic of discussion at initial engagement, Multimodal Composition and Rhetoric has become one of my favorite things. (I even made a Wix Website on Art History for “fun.” It is crazy to me how I am that kid who once cried during a test on opening Microsoft Office Word and now I manage my own website that I am so proud of. (TAKE THAT MS.MURDOCH!) So, what changed?

First, I have a good Professor who does not make me feel bad about myself 24/7... (I hope you’re reading this post in disgust, Murdoch!) I always hate it when my peers talk to me about classes they hate because I believe the process of learning itself is very interesting; a teacher is what ultimately makes or breaks how the information is carried across from student to student. Hopefully, I will be the education administrator that fires teachers like that someday. (ALSO, PRESIDENT. VOTE VINNY FOR PRESIDENT IN 2036 *wink*)

Likewise, I have developed a great respect for Dr. Andrews and her field of research because multimodal composition is used in everyday life. (AND IT IS THE MOST FUN THING EVER EXCEPT WHEN WIX IS SLOW BUT...) I appreciate her various workshops to promote revision time after time as well as her emphasis on using the Wix tools to ensure that each and everyone of us gains a fundamental understanding on how to navigate the tools. The usage of multimodal composition was prevalent in various capacities surrounding our learning environment; most notably our beautiful masterpieces of websites. In the end, however, what we put into our website is ultimately what we got out of it. No matter what anyone else thinks, I am BEYOND PROUD of how far my website has come. (Especially because I endured several heart palpitations when we were first assigned this task back in September...) So, thanks for being a part of the “Table for Two” family; your free T-Shirt encrusted with my face on it is coming soon!

Review!

I really enjoyed this blog post! I liked how you showed your overall progression working in multimodal composition from fifth grade until a freshman in college, and then also talked about the learning process and the importance of a good teacher. I think everyone has had a bad teacher that killed their perspective on a certain class or subject matter, and then also had a teacher who (possibly) inspired them to follow a specific career path. I think that your voice was very evident throughout the work and I could get a feel of your personality through your writing. Also, I really liked how you broke up the text with photos and how you incorporated a video example of multimodal…
