Wizards of Waverly Place was right: everything is not what it seems because everything is a remix

Back in the fifth grade, my mother made the poor decision of leaving me home alone. Bored with nothing to do, I broke into my parents art supplies closet outside my kitchen to give myself a makeover. Tempted by an unlimited supply of paints, I decided to commemorate my love for my favorite movie, The Smurfs. Unaware of potential destruction to myself and my home, my mother later returned to a blue floor and son. (If another smurf movie is created, someone cast me as Painter Smurf) As humans, we each have unique qualities that are distinctive to who we are to differentiate ourselves from the crowd. When I was young, I took dress up to the next level by physically painting myself. Although I was unique in doing so, my unintentional defying the standard of being normal is a remix of something; as is everything else. Not only is my former blue self representative of the Smurfs, but it can be closely aligned to the blue man in Big Fat Liar.

In the realm of movie talk, let me provide you with two different movies and I ask that you seriously think about which one you would like to see. (Before you proceed thinking, grab some tea and secure it in a sippy cup because we are going to be spilling a lot of it…) Now that you are back, the first movie pertains to a totally original idea that catches your attention. It features great actors that you recognize and is being praised by individuals all across the globe. Then, we have a movie that I may or may not have already alluded to, the Smurfs (but a new Smurfs movie). It does not matter how well I may have articulated the basic plot and genre of the other movie as you most likely possess a connection with the smurfs.

We each are familiar with the little blue people as they shifted genre from comic to movie during our youth. Hearing about a new Smurfs movie will inherently bring out some sort of response. While many of you will predetermine the movie to pan out horribly, I promise that you will remember it. (Therefore, the movie is actually a success) If you chose the other movie, realize that The Smurfs has already proven it’s worth by generating revenue and having you remember it. The other movie may appeal to you, however, there is a possibility that you will forget about it after watching it. Therefore, the other movie would never be put into production as it would involve taking a risk and the potential of losing money. (EVERYONE NEEDS TO MAKE BANK)

When I first watched The Smurfs, it was a brand new idea to me despite it having been incepted in the 1950s, thus I was eager to watch it. However, I now realize that the series is an extension of Snow White’s Dwarfs (Happy Dwarf vs Happy Smurf…) Everything is a remix since originality poses a big risk when there is nothing from the past that we can connect to. So, I guess it’s time to eat some popcorn, watch some smurfs, and hope that no other child paints themselves blue.

Soon we'll be Smurfin' Around the Christmas Tree

* Proof that I am right! If you don't agree with me, then I at least hope I gave you a great Halloween costume idea to win Fairfield's costume contest that is coming soon! EVERYBODY SMURF'S UP! (SORRY STAGS)

Phenomenal post! It was awesome how you added a personal anecdote to add an additional dimension of how you yourself had remixed the smurf movie as well! I also focused on Disney for my remix and in the process found that a lot of the content from The Walt Disney Company was based on folktales spread throughout the Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. You did a tremendous job comparing the dwarves and smurfs; it is crazy the amount of similarities the two groups share!
